The bakery was founded in 1982 and is housed in a 200 year old building in the center of historic Shepherdstown, the oldest town in West Virginia. Originally named Mecklenburg, the town was established in 1762 by Thomas Shepherd, a miller, who laid out the town on the banks of the Potomac River and settled it with a variety of businesses and artisans, creating a thriving community that continues today. Originally we specialized in Old World style whole grain artisan breads. Over the years we have expanded our offerings so that today our retail area offers gourmet coffees, donuts, soups and sandwiches made with our wholesome breads, plus a variety of cakes, cookies, tarts, cheesecakes and fine pastries. Our breads and desserts are served in restaurants throughout West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia, and shipped to all 50 states.
